Beyond Waste Current Actions START COLLECTING YOUR E-WASTE NOW!!
Start saving your dead electronics for an E-Waste Roundup Now's the time to round up all those old electronic appliances and gadgets that are just taking up space in your garage. One of the activities of Pt Townsend's Earth Day celebration this year will be an Electonics-Waste Roundup to be held on Saturday, April 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Port of Port Townsend's Industrial Park (Boat Haven). Total Reclaim, based in Seattle, will be here to take many of these pesky items off your hands and free up that corner of your garage. The following items will be accepted at the roundup: televisions (including consoles) copiers (household size only) computer CPUs and laptops answering machines DVDs scanners VCRs fax machines monitors telephones copiers cell phones stereos printers keyboards mice Charges will be by the item, not by the pound, and will be comparable to those charged at the County's Recycling Center. They will range from $30 for console TVs to $3 for a telephone. Keyboards and mice get in free. Total Reclaim uses high-tech equipment to remove plastic housings for recycling before separating out cathode rays and other electronic components. The residuals are shipped to ferrous and non-ferrous metal suppliers. Information contained on hard drives and computer memories is erased by Total Reclaim's material management systems. In addition to keeping these products out of our landfill, local recycling assures that your old electronics are disassembled and recycled in an environmentally responsible manner in a safe workplace. The event is sponsored by the Beyond Waste action group of Local 20/20, EarthDay EveryDay!, Jefferson County Public Works and the Port of Pt. Townsend.
