Economic Localization is about strengthening our local economy. It’s about keeping more dollars here in Jefferson County. It’s about “buying local” and "investing local". Think about the way we spend and invest money. How many dollars stay here in the county and how many go outside to large corporations never to return?
The vulnerabilities of the national and global monetary systems are being exposed daily. Record numbers of housing foreclosures, wild volatility on Wall Street, banks and businesses failing at an alarming rate are some of the painful outcomes. Now is the time to improve the resiliency of our local economy.
Economic Localization is about creating initiatives that can “stop the leakage” by keeping more dollars working here in our community.
One such effort undertaken within the Economic Localization group involved the creation of a local currency known as the North Olympic Exchange.
Another initative has resulted in a group of Jefferson County citizens who have come together to facilitate financial investments that help local businesses and individuals. We invite you to learn more about the new Local Investing Opportunities Network.
