spacer Tibbals Lake Community Orchard

Contact: Jim & Adriane Oliver  oliver@olympus.net

We have a small homeowner's association around Tibbals Lake. Normally, we meet once a year. We began to meet more often in order to do some emergency preparedness. At one of these meetings, the idea was put forward to grow a small orchard together. The idea was to pool our resources, share the labor and eventually, share the fruit. Everyone was excited and wanted to take part. We worked up a budget and each paid their share. We first installed a deer fence. This was the first of our group work parties, which is usually followed by a pot luck meal. This spring, we purchased and planted 15 fruit and nut trees. We also installed a simple drip watering system. We look forward to some time in the future being able to harvest cherries, pears, peaches, apples and various nuts ( and holding more pot lucks together).

The photographs are from our planting party this spring (2008)
